Thesis The research part of the Masters programme consists of 24 weeks (36 credits) of research and writing. This research is usually conducted under supervision of a staff member of one of the participating Chair Groups in the Forest and Nature Conservation programme, but might also take place in another institute or company if the you desire so. In consultation with the MFN study advisor and Thesis advisor you decide about the topic of your research. The subject usually originates from one of the Chair Groups or by other institutes. Nevertheless it is possible to 'create' a subject which is related to your own field of interest. Each research is concluded with a written thesis, which is graded by both the supervisor and an independent staff member. You will conclude your thesis with a colloquium in which you present your final results.
For thesis topics, look at http://tip.wur.nl/ On this search engine you can look for a subject by choosing the relevant Chair Group (FNP, FEM, NCP or REG).

Internship
The compulsory internship consists of 16 weeks (24 credits) of work outside the university. This may be a paid or unpaid position. The intent of the internship is to give students a unique learning opportunity, allowing them to put many of the concepts and methods learned into practice in a realistic professional setting. The internship also serves to help students focus their interest area and course work for the remainder of their studies, and provides maturity gained from relevant work experience.
While securing an internship is primarily the responsibility of the student, the graduate internship coordinator provides substantial aid in locating a position and in insuring that the work experience is relevant and appropriate to the student's program of study. The internship may take place either in the Netherlands or abroad. To receive credits for your internship you must receive a satisfactory evaluation from your field supervisor and your supervisor from within the university. Usually you must also complete a satisfactory internship paper.
Current possibilities for internships can be found on the sites of the four main chairgroups contributing to the MSc Forest and Nature Conservation:

Students with 2 years of very relevant work experience or 5 years of work experience can get an exemption for their internship.
