Study experience Anna van Gammeren
In September 2004 I started with the Master study Forest and Nature conservation in Wageningen. Before I came to Wageningen I studied for four years in ‘s-Hertogenbosch where I obtained my bachelor degree at HAS Den Bosch, which is an agrarian HBO. At HAS Den Bosch I studied Rural Development with a specialisation in Garden and landscape management. This was too much about gardens and town parks for me, so I decided that I wanted to learn more about nature reserves and forest and nature policy. That’s why I choose the specialisation Forest and nature policy at Wageningen University. At this moment I’m working on my thesis about forest history on a private estate. |
The interesting thing about studying at Wageningen University for me was that you are free to full fill a part of your study program. Let me give you an example. In the Master study Forest and Nature conservation you have to do an internship. However, in many cases, if you did a relevant HBO study, you can choose to take courses to obtain the required credits instead of doing an internship. Instead of the internship, I followed courses by the Education and Competence Studies Group of Wageningen University and I did my minor here. A part of this minor was to give some lectures at a secondary school, MBO or HBO and spend a couple of days at this school to observe other lectures and students. I did this at HAS Den Bosch at the same program, where I was, two years ago, a student myself. This turned out so well, that the director of the study Rural Development at HAS Den Bosch asked me to come and work there. So next college year I will start to work at HAS Den Bosch as a fulltime teacher in policy and communication!
